AB 2585, as it passed in the Assembly, authorized an individual or group health care service plan contract or health insurance policy issued, amended, or renewed on or after January 1, 2023, that covers hospital, medical, or surgical expenses to provide coverage for nonpharmacological pain management treatment, as defined.
The Senate amendments instead made findings and declarations, including, among other things, that the health care system, including health care providers, health care service plans, and health insurers, should encourage the use of evidence-based nonpharmacological therapies for pain management.
